Transfer of Skills
I used several different skills learned from this class in my MAR105 class. I used active reading and annotating strategies when it came to reading the textbook and other material. Specifically in this past month, we have done a lot of work with scientific articles. These articles can be very wordy and difficult to understand. However, using annotating strategies that I learned in this course, I was able to break down the articles enough in a way that made them easier for me to understand. I took each paragraph one by one and made sure that I understood it well enough to write a quick summary of it before moving on to the next one. Then, when asked to complete an activity based on the article, it was easier for me to find information using my summaries. Applying active reading strategies to these scientific articles made it much easier for me to understand what was happening in the articles, therefore making it easier for me to respond as well. I also applied some skills from our podcast project to this class. I was given the assignment to complete a 12-minute recorded presentation. Normally, I wouldn’t really take into consideration how the information was presented, I would just want to make sure that I got everything in. However this time I tried to take into account how I presented the information, similar to a podcast. When it came to organizing and ordering what I was going to say, I thought of it as a podcast rather than a presentation. This extra consideration made my presentation flow better and be much more organized.
