CHE 110L
One of the other classes that I enjoyed this semester was my general chemistry lab. I enjoyed this class mostly because of the instructor’s enthusiasm towards the subject as well as how he had made everything easy to follow along with. I felt that I had an easier time understanding subjects when they were presented to me in lab rather than in lecture. One of the learning objectives for general chemistry is to “Demonstrate scientific literacy and the ability to communicate science-based information”. I feel like I achieved this during lab due to our whiteboard activity. At the end of each lab session, we would get a whiteboard and write our claim, evidence, and justification on it. In order to do this, we had to have an understanding of what the results from our experiment meant, as well as why they supported our claim. I practiced communicating the data that I found in a way that connected it to a bigger picture. If anything was unclear, my lab instructor would lead me to explaining the information in the way that he was looking for. With each week, it got easier for me to explain the results on my own, without him helping lead me to the correct answer. I believe this shows that over time, I grew and became much better at the learning objective.
