Revision Reflection #1
The global revision process was something that I had never done before this class, and I found it very useful. I found that it helped me to organize everything in my essay by dividing it into different sections: the introduction, the three different learning styles, and the conclusion. Next, I aimed for each section to include three things: a reference to Bain, a reference to Dweck, and a personal experience. Using this as a guideline was helpful in that I could easily check off everything on the lists to make sure I had the necessary requirements. I made a lot of changes to my final draft, most of them being global revision, which made my final a lot better than my first draft. The least helpful part of revision for me was looking for unnecessary words to replace them with better ones. Although I could understand why it would be helpful to others, for me it was just a waste of time because I did not have any unnecessary words in the first place.
I feel like in writing this essay, we reached the highest level of Bloom’s taxonomy. We started with remembering the three learning styles and what they mean, as well as the two mindsets when approaching challenge. Then, with the understanding level, we were able to explain each of the different ideas from Bain and Dweck in our own words. By thinking of personal examples from our lives that fit in with each of these terms, we were at the applying level. When we made text-to-text connections between Bain’s ideas and Dweck’s, we were at the analyzing level. In my essay, I offered my opinion as to what I thought made me develop the learning style and mindset that I have. This could be considered the evaluating stage. In my podcast, I included my own ideas as to how to not cause future children to develop poor learning styles. This might be considered part of the creating level.
